Senior Manager for Freeze Drying

The Team
In the Freeze-Drying department there are two sub-teams, which are responsible for different parts of the product portfolio within the company. You will manage a Freeze-Drying team consisting of 7 very skilled and specialized product engineers with an average seniority of +10 years. The team designs, constructs and controls the deliveries of technical products to the global Freeze-Drying projects delivered by GEA worldwide.
The Challenge is to design and develop Freeze-Drying solutions worldwide
In this role, you focus on leading the team and secure and drive the overall product engineering of Freeze-Drying solutions for continuous Freeze-Drying plants.
In addition to leading the team, your primarily responsibilities are to:
- Ensure adequate competence level of individual contributors and development of the same
- Resource planning for the team and follow-up on progress. Give input to planning of new projects
- Ensure that Freeze Drying products sold in the Business Unit are engineered, documented, procured, manufactured, tested, and supported during installation and commissioning to enable on-time, on-budget and on-quality delivery of both products and engineering deliverables
- Collaborate with project managers, product managers, process, sales as well as coordinate and communicate with other departments, sub-contractors, and suppliers to move projects forward
- Support project sales and after-market with specialist knowledge on product design, trouble shooting and cost calculation
- Ensure that the product portfolio is designed, and order executed with focus on cost efficiency, so products stay competitive in the market
- Contribute to ensure that total costs for manufacturing and procurement are at the right level in a continuous cooperation with Supply Chain, Business Unit and workshops
- Identify possible improvement of engineering processes and tools
- Participate in identification and implementation of general cost reduction initiatives for engineering
- Ensure that Freeze Drying products live up to industrial standards and comply with rules and regulations for the markets that are served globally
- Ensure diligence in providing correct documentation to match customer requirements / specifications

Your Talent
You ensure alignment between business/market priorities/needs and product design delivering technical support. You have a minimum of 5+ years of experience with focus on technical delivery processes, product manufacturing or similar, combined with a master’s degree within the field of Mechanical Engineering or the like.
Expertise and technical know-how within project management and end-to-end process understanding is a given as well as knowledge and experience with PDM, ERP and 2D/3D CAD tools.
As a person you have shown your ability to work in an international environment and manage several projects simultaneously within a matrixed, international organization.
You are a strong people Manager, empathic, ambitious, analytical and at the same time calm. You secure a nice work environment. This requires a person who can focus on the big picture and at the same time be able to help and support the team when needed. This by a great understanding of the technology and product complexity. Your time management is divided between Management, Project Management and Engineering.
You also like to:
- Work continuously to optimize and improve existing engineering resources (people management & competence development)
- Coordinate product engineering and execution across Business Unit projects (product focused project management)
- Work continuously to ensure alignment between existing engineering management, product features, pricing, and business requirements
- Support engineering activities (resources and project management) for new product development
- Secure cross-functional communication with Sales, Project Execution, Supply Chain, workshops/suppliers, Automation, Site Supervision within Business Unit in relation to execution of costumer projects
- Engage and champion the values and objectives of GEA, TECH, and Product Engineering
- Bring new models, ideas, and innovation
Additionally, experience with technical project management within Engineering, Equipment or Food & Beverage manufacturing including several years of leadership of technical/engineering teams.
